Finding Acting Gigs Without an Agent: The Best Casting Sites

As an actor trying to make it in the industry, having representation from a talent agent can be extremely helpful for getting auditions and booking roles. However, many actors starting out don’t yet have an agent. The good news is that in today’s digital age, there are numerous online casting websites that allow actors to find and submit for acting jobs directly, without needing an agent.

Here are some of the top casting websites for actors without representation:

Actors Access

One of the most popular casting sites, Actors Access has thousands of listings for roles in films, TV shows, commercials, theater productions and more. You can create a profile, upload photos/reels, and submit directly for roles that fit your “type.” Actors Access does require a paid subscription.

Backstage

Backstage is another leading job board for actors, with a huge database of roles to browse and submit for. In addition to acting jobs, you’ll also find casting notices for modeling, voice-over work, and other gigs. Basic membership is free, with options to upgrade for more features.

Cast It Talent

Cast It Talent is a great resource for actors of all experience levels. You can create a profile, get updates on new casting calls that match your criteria, and submit audition videos directly through the platform. Membership costs around $20/month.

LA Casting

As the name implies, LA Casting is focused on acting jobs in the Los Angeles area, though they do have some national listings as well. The site is free to use and lets you search for roles, manage your profile and resume, and submit for roles online.

Casting Networks

Casting Networks has a vast number of acting jobs across film, TV, theater, commercials and more. You’ll need to pay for a subscription, but it’s a valuable resource for finding auditions without an agent.

Facebook

Facebook has become a valuable resource for actors looking for casting calls and audition opportunities. Many casting directors, production companies, and local theater groups create Facebook pages or join acting community groups to post casting notices. Actors can follow or join these pages and groups to receive updates on new casting calls in their news feeds. It’s a good idea to join regional acting groups for your area, as well as national/international groups for bigger opportunities. You can use Facebook’s search function to find these groups by searching for keywords like “casting calls,” “acting auditions,” plus your city, region, or type of acting you’re interested in. Additionally, some casting websites and services have their own Facebook pages where they post about new projects. By utilizing Facebook, actors can easily stay informed about upcoming auditions from the convenience of their mobile device or computer.

How to Use These Sites Effectively

  1. Create a Strong Profile – Your profile is your calling card, so make sure it has high-quality headshots and reels that accurately represent your “type” and abilities. Fill out the resume section thoroughly as well.
  2. Search Diligently – Check the sites regularly for new casting calls that fit your age, gender, location, skills, etc. Many allow you to set up email alerts.
  3. Follow Directions Carefully – Casting directors provide specific instructions on how to submit (self-tapes, in-person auditions, etc). Follow them exactly.
  4. Be Persistent – Don’t get discouraged! Booking roles takes persistence. Keep submitting for roles you’re right for.

With some hard work and dedication to using these online resources, actors can find opportunities and get face time in front of casting directors, even without an agent…at least at first. Booking work and making connections can eventually lead to getting representation down the road.
